Dickie Moore seriously injured in car accident

On Sunday, Aug. 27, Dickie Moore, president and owner of Dickie Moore Rentals, St-Laurent, Quebec, Canada, was seriously injured in a car accident. A driving rainstorm made visibility difficult as Moore was exiting the parking lot of a Montreal area restaurant. An oncoming truck struck his car. Moore, 75, was trapped inside his vehicle for 45 minutes and his injuries include seven broken ribs, neck and back injuries, an injured knee and internal bleeding. He reportedly had no injuries to his spinal cord and was not suffering from any paralysis. The Canada Press reported that he was released from intensive care on Aug. 30.

Moore, before starting his successful equipment rental business, played in the NHL as a left-winger for the Montreal Canadiens for 14 years, which included six Stanley Cups. Moore was the league’s leading scorer for two of those seasons, was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1974 and had his number 12 jersey retired by the Canadiens last year. During the 1958-59 regular season, Moore scored 96 points to beat Gordie Howes’ single season point record. Late in his career, he played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and St. Louis Blues.

He has received visits at Montreal General Hospital from former teammates as well as the Canadiens’ team doctor.

Dickie Moore Equipment has been an ARA member since 1966.
