Michael Sullivan, 60, died on Aug. 18, 2010, following a heart attack. Sullivan was a long-time United Rentals employee who was known as “the Mayor of New York” on many construction sites. He was one of the original lift salesmen in New York City, beginning his career in February 1983 with McClinch Equipment and continuing with United Rentals. In a statement, United Rentals said he generated well over $150 million in revenue over his 27-year career. Sullivan helped supply lift equipment in the 1980s to the original Jacob Javits Convention Center and World Trade Center projects, and made multi-million dollar sales of new equipment to the New York City Transit Authority. More recently, he was involved in arranging a large sale to an overseas customer, which was not unusual as his industry contacts stretched worldwide. He was very active in many contractor associations and charities. United Rentals said Sullivan will be remembered for his accomplishments, as well as his involvement in the training of new sales representatives. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary, two children and a granddaughter. |
