How to avoid the new resort fees at Las Vegas hotels
How to avoid the new resort fees at Las Vegas hotels
07/25/2010

Since The Rental Show was last held in Las Vegas in 2008, something new has popped up at many hotels in the city: resort fees. These surcharges, which can range from a few dollars up to $20 or more per night, are added to a guest’s final bill. The resort fees do cover amenities such as high-speed Internet service and gym access, but guests often don’t notice any mention of the fees often listed in the fine print when they are booking hotel rooms online.

However, if you are attending or exhibiting at The Rental Show, there is a simple solution to avoid paying resort fees and, in most cases, also receive the resort benefits: book your hotel through Travel Planners. “The Las Vegas hotel market is very competitive right now,” said Allison Box, ARA's vice president for association services. “Travel Planners, as ARA’s official housing company, has worked with each of The Rental Show’s six hotels to secure the best possible room rates as well as waive the resort fees for guests who book through them.”

The Rental Show guests who book through Travel Planners will receive the resort fee benefits — which can include free Internet, free bottled water, a daily newspaper, free local phone calls and more — at most ARA properties without paying the resort fee charges.

Travel Planners also continuously monitors the rates being offered at the official hotels for The Rental Show and contacts the properties to match the rate if a lower rate for the same dates and same room type is found.

Through Sept. 30, there is an exclusive “early bird” rate for Mandalay Bay and THEhotel at Mandalay Bay. You will save $40 per night by booking by this date. In addition, you will receive a one-time Casino Match Play credit of $20. To receive this credit, you need to register for the Mandalay Bay Players Club card, which will be activated with a Match Play credit. When you spend $20, the hotel gives you $20 to double your money.
